1. Acceptance of Terms
By registering for or participating in Diwan Hackathon 2026 ("the Event"), organized by DiwanHQ ("we," "us," or "the Organizers"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not participate in the Event.
2. Eligibility
To participate, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age, or have parental/guardian consent
- Provide accurate and truthful information during registration
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
- Agree to uphold the values and code of conduct of the Event
3. Participant Responsibilities
Each participant is solely responsible for:
- Their own travel, accommodation, and transportation to/from the venue
- Personal belongings, equipment, and devices brought to the Event
- Their own health, safety, and well-being during the Event
- Obtaining necessary travel visas, permits, or documentation
- Any code, projects, or intellectual property they create or bring
- Ensuring they have proper licenses for any software or tools used
- Backing up their own work and data
4. Code of Conduct
All participants must:
- Treat all participants, organizers, and staff with respect and dignity
- Refrain from any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior
- Respect Islamic values and maintain appropriate conduct
- Follow venue rules and safety guidelines
- Not engage in any illegal activities
- Not misuse or damage venue facilities or equipment
Violation of the Code of Conduct may result in immediate disqualification and removal from the Event without refund or compensation.
5. Intellectual Property
You retain full ownership of any intellectual property you create during the Event. By participating, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:
- Feature your project in Event communications and promotional materials
- Share project descriptions and demos for educational purposes
- Include your work in Event recaps and documentation
This license does not transfer ownership, and you may commercialize your work freely.
6. Limitation of Liability
⚠ IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DiwanHQ and its organizers, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and staff shall NOT be liable for:
- Any personal injury, illness, or death occurring during or in connection with the Event
- Loss, theft, or damage to personal property, equipment, or belongings
- Any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Technical failures, data loss, or system malfunctions
- Actions or conduct of other participants or third parties
- Force majeure events (natural disasters, pandemics, etc.)
- Travel disruptions or visa issues
7. Assumption of Risk
By participating, you acknowledge that hackathons involve inherent risks including but not limited to: physical strain, sleep deprivation, and stress. You voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation and release the Organizers from any claims arising from such risks.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless DiwanHQ, its officers, directors, employees, sponsors, and partners from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your participation in the Event or violation of these Terms.
9. Photography and Media
By attending the Event, you consent to being photographed, filmed, or recorded. These materials may be used for promotional purposes, social media, and future Event marketing. If you prefer not to be photographed, please inform the organizers at registration.
10. Event Changes and Cancellation
We reserve the right to modify the Event schedule, venue, format, or cancel the Event entirely due to circumstances beyond our control. In case of cancellation, we will make reasonable efforts to notify participants but shall not be liable for any costs incurred by participants.
11. Disqualification
We reserve the right to disqualify any participant or team for:
- Violating the Code of Conduct
- Cheating or submitting pre-existing work
- Plagiarism or intellectual property infringement
- Disruptive or unsafe behavior
- Misrepresentation in registration
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Finland. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Helsinki, Finland.
